Why is Blue Lobster popular?

Blue Lobster became an internet bait-and-switch meme in 2022. Someone would post a completely normal-looking video, only for the blue lobster to suddenly appear at the end.

The joke became known as getting “Lobstered.” It spread from iFunny to TikTok and other platforms, with people constantly finding new ways to trick viewers into expecting literally anything except a blue lobster.

The actual lobster behind the meme was a rare cotton-candy lobster named Haddie that was caught in Maine in 2021. Somehow, the internet looked at this extremely rare animal and decided its true purpose was jumpscares.
