The moment originated during an iShowSpeed Fortnite livestream in 2021. A younger player was trying to convince Speed to let him win and explained that his mom was “kinda homeless” and that he wanted to help her out.

What turned the moment into a meme was Speed's reaction. He visibly tried to keep a straight face while another player noticed what was happening and immediately called him out for trying not to laugh. Speed's expression became just as recognizable as the quote itself.

The clip later spread as a reaction video, GIF, and meme template. “Please Speed, I need this” and “my mom is kinda homeless” became recognizable references, while Speed's trying-not-to-laugh reaction was reused in completely unrelated situations across the internet.

Years later, Speed reunited with people from the original clip. The story also had real circumstances behind it, which gave the famous internet moment some unexpected context beyond the meme.
